In September of 2015, my husband, my 6 month old, and I packed up our home and belongings and boarded a one way flight to the UAE. We spent the previous 2 years deliberating a move overseas, granted it was before babies and during a time in our marriage that we felt we needed a change. There were many factors that contributed to our willingness to move at the time, but for myself it was as simple as just needing to “get away”. Fast forward a year, I find myself staring at a positive pregnancy test and just like that the idea of moving abroad left my mind as quickly as it entered it. However it seemed it was only my mind that it left, my husband was more motivated than ever to keep the dream alive even with a baby of starting a new life abroad.
And here we are, 2 years into living in arguably the most uncomfortable summer heat on the globe, a 2 and a half year old son and 14 month old daughter, a sweet Filipina nanny, 3 apartment moves, 3 career moves, and a lot of visitors from abroad, Dubai is where we call home.
